Loving the first book but mildly okay with the second book, I was worried about Shades Of Doon. Early readers have said that this one was the best so far in the series. I had high hopes that the pacing would pick up but it ended up being a let down.
I had so many problems with the story. The second book was disappointing but this one was worse. I felt like the whole series has been getting dragged on when I think it could have ended with the first book. That cliffhanger wasn't too shocking and it failed to make me curious for the second book either way.
I absolutely loved the first book. The interactions between Veronica and Jaime were really engaging. And the vast world of Doon was very mysterious and interesting to see unfold. But now the plot with the same old witch is dull. It wasn't exactly epic in the first book to begin with.
My only favorite parts were seeing Jaime and Veronica together. But I do think their romance lacked it's luster that it had in the first book.
I wanted to skip over Mackena's point of view because as I've said before, I think it's a bit pointless. It's not as interesting as Veronica's and the story could have been stronger without her narration.
The cover for Shades of Doon is really beautiful and pleasing to the eye. It's my favorite of the series so far which is one reason I'm sad that I didn't love this book.
