An Invasion Of Privacy from Another Blogger

Never, under any circumstances, give the address of your giveaway winner to anyone!!

I really have no words for the email I just received this morning. I'm just shocked and disturbed. And I have no idea how to start this so I'll just jump straight to the point.

I received a request from an author telling me he was given my address from a blogger I know because I've been on her blog and entered her giveaways. And I'm just so disgusted and appalled that she thinks I would be okay with that. What the hell? It should be up to me to decide if I want to give
my address away, not her!!

It's common sense to delete the winner's address after a giveaway is over! When you host a giveaway, DELETE the address of the winner. NEVER SEND it to someone for review request purposes!! I just wonder if she keeps them all in a journal to send them to other people.

Maybe it sounds like I'm making a big deal out of this but I'm not!! This is a serious invasion of privacy and trust! I have a right to be angry and upset over this.

What bothers me is that this is a long-time blogger in this blog community and she's a grown up. She should know better! Why would she take advantage of this?!

I really don't like calling people out. I've already sent her an email and I hope to get an explanation and apology; otherwise, I will not hesitate to take further action.

12:00pm Update: Someone has pointed out to me that the address given out may have been my email address and not my home address. But either way, the blogger still should have contacted me for my permission. I'm still waiting to hear back from the blogger. And I also emailed the author to ask what information he was given.

12:43pm Update: I just got a reply. And this turned out to be a big misunderstanding on my part. It was something I had signed up for and I didn't remember. Sorry for the false alarm!

If guys have any advice on what to do next, please leave a comment below because I honestly don't know what else to do.

  1. OMG! This is so freaking ridiculous and I can't believe someone would do something like this. Especially, someone who's supposed to be a blogger. I'm so sorry that this happened to you!

  2. I completely agree. Unless the address is used for prize redemption, it should be deleted after the giveaway is over. I avoid giving my address out on most giveaway forms for that reason, but sometimes it's a required entry.

    1. I think this is just going to make me more cautious when entering giveaways in the future. People should never give address' away like that.

Thank you so much for commenting! It really makes me happy knowing that people actually read my posts and that I'm not talking to myself. I will always try to respond to comments when I can or return the favor by commenting on your blog if you have one :)
